Lady Tremaine’s story is very sad, but that doesn’t excuse her actions towards Ella.
She was mean to Ella, treated her like she was nothing and encouraged her daughters to join in on the cruelty for years. She allowed them to rip up Ella’s dress, giving her their leftover food, actively trying to make her miserable and she became a slave in her own home.
“love is not free” is a powerful sentence!

I wish Disney would do a movie all about Lady Tremaine, I would love to find out why she is cruel and mean.
This got right what the "Maleficent" movies completely botched. It manages to humanize Lady Tremaine and give her a sympathetic moment but never falters in remembering she is a cruel and manipulative woman.

Once again proving why Lady Tremaine is one of the most iconic and Evil Disney villains
although it's no excuse to abuse Cinderella all her life, I really like how they give Tremaine a more tragic background.
Lady Tremaine had two husbands. The first one, Sir Francis Tremaine, she married for love and the second one, Cinderella's father, she married for convenience.

I honestly hope I am wrong but all of Lady Tremaines animosity stems from that she saw herself in Ella and bc of how things turned out in her life, losing two husbands and taking care of two daughters she cant help but resent the girl who represents what her life could've been

And according to Tremaine’s page at the Disney Wiki, Tremaine’s DELIBERATE destruction of the glass slipper with intent to prevent Kit from finding and marrying Ella could be considered an act of treason because it could have resulted in the royal bloodline being severed. And if it WAS an act of treason, then Tremaine’s efforts to prevent Kit from marrying Ella are almost akin to Donald Trump inviting Russia to hack the election and then Mitch McConnell threatening to politicize the evidence of Russian interference in the election if Barack Obama went public with the evidence.
